African Beads
As early as the 18th century, the Venetian Republic traded with various African territories.
One of the most frequent trading currencies were Murano glass beads.
Hence African Beads were born. Created with ancient techniques of Murano artisans, but inspired by African vibes and colours.

In the Ancient Beads collection you will find not only African beads but also traditional Venetian beads, which were also used as a valuable object in trades in the past.
Today Atelier Leonardo creates its jewellery with what is remain of these exchanges, creating a product with ancient materials, but with a modern design.
Our History
Certifying the exact year of production of Venetian pearls is always very difficult.
Nevertheless, there are several sources that allow us to orient ourselves in time and define approximate periods to which the pearls date.
Giacomo De Carlo, an expert connoisseur and collector of Venetian beads, has put together in this book years of study and passion, collecting and cataloguing hundreds of beads, researching their origins and dating.
It is not easy to certify the exact year of production of pearls. But there are several sources that help us to define approximate periods to which pearls date.
The records you can see, are part of a sorting of factory warehouses, compiled in the mid-1900s.
The pearls we use to create our products do not correspond exactly to the dates indicated, but after numerous studies it has been possible to determine approximate periods to which the pearls date.
